British Blonde bulls peak at 4,800gns
British Blonde bulls sold to 4,800gns three times at Welshpool. Firstly, for the winning senior bull, Rosebank Ultron, a February 2023-born son of Ark Maverick from Jamie Turnock, Derbyshire. The buyer was D. L. and M. Rogers, Presteigne.
Second prize winner from C.E. and S.W. Mycock, Derbyshire, was February 2023-born Whitepeak Usain by Hashtag which sold to H. W. Lloyd, Abergele, also for 4,800gns.
Second prize winner in the intermediate section from Messrs Turnock was Rosebank Union, an April 2023-born Doncombe Ozark son, which also made 4,800gns to S. Pegington, Usk.
The champion, was the intermediate winnier, Whitepeak Uruk-Hai by Whistley Olly P from Messrs Mycock, which was knocked down for 4,500gns to Messrs Jones, Newtown.
Average: 5 bulls, £4,809.

Smallrigg dispersal sets Montbeliarde record
The dispersal of the Smallrigg Montbeliarde herd on behalf of the Newbould family, Lochmaben, Dumfries and Galloway, at Carlisle topped at 4,000gns setting a new breed record.
The sale topper was a second lactation cow by Ilax which had produced more than 10,000kg in its heifer lactation and was currently giving 62kg. The buyer was Messrs Brakewell, Kirkby in Furness.
One of several selling for 3,700gns was another Ilax daughter, a second calver which had been the prize winning cow for combined butterfat and protein in Scotland and Northen England with a heifer lactation of almost 15,000kgs in 305 days.

Milking heifers topped at 3,800gns for a daughter of Ilax, she had calved in October and was due again in September to Roctavio sexed.
In-calf heifers sold to 3,600gns for a daughter of Upsall due in August to the Angus.

Champion tops Kirkby Stephen stores at £4,000
The entry of 906 mainly 12-13-month-old store cattle at Kirkby Stephen topped at £4,000 for the pre-sale show champion, a 13-month-old British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Brass, Soulby, which was bought by the judge, Callum Maciver, Easter Strath, Avoch.
Messrs Brass, also sold 12-month-old British Blue heifer at £3,650 to Messrs Allen, Knock, and a nine- month-old British Blue heifer at £3,500 to Messrs Barnett, Shap. Their consignment of 40 British Blue and Limousin steers and heifers averaged £2,358.43. Messrs Tiplady, Barnard Castle, sold a 12-month- old British Blue heifer for £3,050 to Messrs McAlister, Stirlingshire.

Messrs Hill, Great Asby, sold a 13-month-old Limousin heifer for £3,000 to Messrs Hutchinson, Valley Farm, Bowes.
The consignment of 65 Limousin and British Blue cross heifers and steers from Messrs Sowerby. Ormside, topped at £2,945 for an 11-month-old British Blue heifer bought by Messrs Tindale, Durham. It also included the reserve champion, the winning Limousin steer, a 13-month-old entry which made £2,780 also to the judge, with 13-month-old British Blue steers from this home selling to £2,715 and the consignment averaging £2,359.90.

Averages up at Darlington
Stars of the Future show and sale of store cattle saw heifers average £1,567, up £363 on the same sale last year and steers average £1,704, up £548.
Top price of £2,700 was for an Aberdeen-Angus bull from J.V. Hodgson and Son, Piercebridge Farm. R. A. Patterson and Son, Capheaton, sold a Limousin at £2,400 and J.C. Thwaite and Son, Lartington, matched this at £2,400 with a 13-month-old Aberdeen Angus.
Top of the steers at £2.580 was an Aberdeen-Angus from D. and H.M. Hodgson, Consett, followed by a Limousin from W. and J. Herbert, Durham at £2,540. and of Yearlings sold to £2,520 for a British Blonde from B.O. Cockburn, Newbiggin Farm.
Heifers topped at £2,540 for a Limousin shown by B.R. Lawson, Whaston, with an Aberdeen Angus at £2,460 from A & A G Moralee, Willington, and a 12-month-old Limousin from W.A. Dinsdale and Son, Harkerside Place at £2,440.
The championship went to Gordon and Julie Sedgewick, Aycliffe, with a 12-month-old British Blue cross steer which made £2,250, with the reserve championship from the same home going to a 12-month-old red-roan Limousin sired heifer which made £2,350.

Strong trade at Pateley Bridge
The sale of 162 store cattle at Pateley Bridge topped at £2,740 for a Limousin heifer from R. and K.A. Burley and Son, Wath.
Steers sold to £2,490 for a Limousin from E. and A.M. Simpson and Son, Heathfield.
In the over 30-month section top price per kilo and per head was a Montbeliarde at 370p/kg (£2,331/head) from S.W. and J.E. Ryder, Norwood.
Clean heifers topped at 440p/kg (£2,464) for a 24-month-old British Blue from B. Kellett and Sons, Bishop Thornton.
W. Furniss and Sons, Dacre, sold a 19-month-old Aberdeen-Angus bull for 350p/kg (£2,450).
Averages: Steers, £1,884.51; heifers, £1,580.99; cows, 260.88p/kg (£1,780.32); clean heifers, 365.34p/kg (£2,043.90).

Cowley dispersal peaks at 3,500gns
The dispersal of the pedigree Cowley herd of Holstein Friesians for Richard Malpass and family on-farm at Gnosall, Stafford, topped at 3,500gns with 73 cattle selling for more than £3,000.
The top price cow at 3,500gns was a third calver giving 45kgs daily after recording 13,875kgs in its last lactation.
A Staffordshire buyer gave 3,450gns for a freshly calved Peak Tropic sired third calver which had given 15,789kgs as a second calver
Cows back in calf for calving from August to October regularly made over 3,000gns with 25 going to one Cornish buyer.
In-calf heifers peaked at 2,500gns for a Luster daughter due in June and yearlings sold to 1,900gns for a Totem daughter.
Averages: 269 milkers (including faults), £2,452; 63 in-calf heifers, £1,952; 111 yearlings, £1,088; 61 heifer calves, £392; 504 head, £1,840.

Penrith dairies to £4,200
At Penrith fresh dairy heifers averaged a record £3,119.83 topping at £4,200 for D. W. Cannon and Son, Low Abbey, with a Holstein Friesian heifer giving 40kg and calved 30 days. The buyer was H. and E. M Hunter and Son, Berrier. This consignment averaged £2,925 for eight heifers and four cows.
Another consignment from J. and B. Donald, Lamonby, peaked at £3,600 for a Swedish Red cross Holstein Friesian giving 35kg which sold to H.M. Dent, Darlington. Another 10 animals sold in excess of £3,000.
In-calf heifers topped at £2,100 from Messrs Strong, Low Brow, with a British Friesian, 6-weeks off calving.

Flying dairy trade at Exeter
The entry of 163 dairy cattle sold from two vendors at Exeter sold to one of the dearest trades ever seen.
Trevor and Mary Wilson, Kingsbridge, sold 50 head of British Friesian non-recorded grazing type cows as the first consignment to disperse their herd topping at £3,000 for a second calver with other fresh second and third calvers at £2,650 and £2,600. The same vendors sold 30 autumn calving cows due in August and September to £2,900 twice with their consignment of 50 averaging £2,145.
Bicton College, Budleigh Salterton, sold110 head as a major reduction of their herd of small grazing type cross bred cows with 41 milkers topping at £2,800 twice for a heifer and a second calver with others to £2,750 to average £2,357.
The same vendors sold Friesian yearling heifers to £980, 15 times to average £956. Heifer calves topped at £350 and averaged £316.

Sterndale leads Shrewsbury sale
The Robin Maund Cup for the Easter Extravaganza dairy show champion at Shrewsbury Bill Nadin of W. J. Nadin and Co, Buxton, represented by Ben Mycock, with the heifer, Sterndale KD Rae which went on to sell for £3,300.
The same vendor had the day's top price of £3,500 for second prize winner, Sterndale Dreambig Promis VG86.
J. M. and D. Shepherd and Son, Bakewell, took third place with Meldamar Mingus Heather 76 TH, which sold at £3,080, with the same price paid for Clwch Luster P Rosebud, a heifer from Alastair Drinkall, Wettenhall.
Cows peaked at £3,220 for Dilandy Remedy Dazzle 2, the third prize winner from Andrew Shakeshaft, Ellesmere.
Averages: 15 fresh cows, £2,309; 51 fresh heifers, £2,239, five heifer calves, £240.
