The patronage was held by Queen Elizabeth II, who served as NFYFC's patron for 65 years.

The King has always had an interest in the rural community - he also served as NFYFC's president from 2002-2006, organising visits to Highgrove for YFC members and presented awards at The Royal Show, showcasing his ongoing support for young people in agriculture.

NFYFC chair of council Drew Bailey said: "NFYFC is honoured that His Majesty The King is our Royal Patron. His Majesty's commitment to Young Íæż½ã½ã' Clubs reflects our proud history of nine decades of developing rural young people's skills.

LISTEN NOW:

"As a former president of the National Federation, we are privileged to now have His Majesty serve as our patron. His Majesty's commitment to the countryside and the welfare of rural communities perfectly aligns with the mission of NFYFC and its clubs and counties.

"Much of our work focuses on developing rural young people's skills and raising awareness about opportunities in the sector."

Queen Elizabeth II

NFYFC also wanted to pay tribute to his predecessor and mother Queen Elizabeth II. Throughout her 65 years as patron, The Queen met with  many YFC members, including presenting awards at The Royal Show, and showed a general interest in agriculture.

The organisation said 'she was a true countrywoman, who understood the challenges young farmers face to feed the nation and always championed rural communities."
