Fun run successfully raises hospice funds

A procession of 40 tractors made its way around Strathmore on Sunday (April 16) on a fun run with a serious purpose.

Letham couple Ewan and Wendy Cameron organised the run to raise funds for the Strathmore Hospice in Forfar, raising 840.

The 50 mile route took in Kinpurnie, Airlie, Cortachy and Glamis, all of which have rooms in the hospice named after them.

Bob Ritchie, of implement manufacturer Ritchie of Forfar, took part in his 1953 diesel Ferguson just ahead of leaving for Lviv in Ukraine driving a pickup truck as part of the Pickups For Peace initiative.

This will be the third convoy he has joined since the first delivery was made to the Ukrainian forces in early March.

Mr Ritchie said: I felt strongly about the desperate situation in Ukraine and thought this was something I could do. For the first convoy I was allocated a well-used 13-year-old Toyota but it never a missed a beat over a journey of well over 1,000 miles across Europe.

The Ukrainian soldiers find these pickups ideal for all sorts of purposes and they are very pleased to have them.
