STIRLING BULL SALES: Two-time 25,000gns high for Charolais

Charolais bulls topped at 25,000gns twice, with a clearance rate of 79 per cent and averages up £571 on the year, at £6,633.

Overall and senior champion, Glenericht Oasis, from W.K. and P. Drysdale, Blairgowrie, commanded the first of the day's high bids at 25,000gns.

A 12,000gns Caylers Gladiator son, Oasis is out of Glenericht Gem, a daughter of the 16,000gns Stirling junior champion, Clyth Diplomat.

The May 2018-born bull's full brother also sold for 11,500gns in October 2017. It was knocked down to D. Sawrij, Lauderdale, to join the Swalesmoor herd.

Matching the 25,000gns price tag and this time knocked down to Boden and Davies, Cheshire, was the reserve overall and junior champion, Elrick Outlaw, from M.J. Massie, Ellon.

An August 2018-born son of the French-bred Maerdy Gouverneur, the bull's dam, Elrick Florida, also bred the 8,500gns Stirling supreme champion, Elrick Malt, in October 2017.

Making 15,000gns was another from the Massie's. By the same sire as their overall reserve champion, Gouverneur, and out of Elrick Isidore, it went home with J. Crawford, County Londonderry.

Also making 15,000gns was the intermediate champion, Elgin Oliver, a June 2018-born bull from R.A. Milne, Elgin. A Woodpark Elgin son out of Elgin Ianthe, a Caylers Gladiator daughter, it sold to J. and J. Rix, Essex.

Next, at 13,000gns, was Maerdy Osgood, a June 2018-born bull from D.E. Evans, Mold. A Blelack Fablous son out of Maerdy Honney, it sold in a two-way split to C. Smeaton and Son, Angus, and Major D. F. W. H and N.R. Walter, Perthshire.
